Brand name:-  ORPROZIL , ZEMETRIL 250, 500mg tab, Refzil 250,500mg.

Cefprozil is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.

Pharmacodynamic:-

Cefprozil, a semisynthetic, second-generation cephalosporin, is used to treat otitis media, soft-tissue infections, and respiratory tract infections.

 Mechanism of action:- 

Cefazolin inhibits cell wall biosynthesis by binding penicillin-binding proteins which stops peptidoglycan synthesis. Penicillin-binding proteins are bacterial proteins that help to catalyze the last stages of peptidoglycan synthesis, which is needed to maintain the cell wall.

Used:- 

Used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs); and infections of the skin, ears, sinuses, throat, and tonsils ,.

Side effects:- 

Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Abdominal pain, Genital itching, Vaginal inflammation, Increased liver enzymes, Increased white blood cell count (eosinophils).

Dose:- 250mg - 500mg BD, ( child 20mg/kg/day).

Calcium carbonate (40% Ca) : It is an insoluble, tasteless and nonirritating salt. Reacts with gastric HCL  to form cholride, and can be used as antacid. It is the most common salt present in calcium supplements, but gastric acid is required for  converting it into the absorbable form . Calcium availability from it is poor in patients taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) ,H² blocker, and in elderly. 2.  Calcium citrate ( as tetrahydrate , 21% Ca²+ ) : Slightly soluble in water, but dissolve well in presence of HCL .
