BENZYL PENICILLIN (PENICILLIN -G) ; used, Side effects, dose, pharmacodynamic, mechanism of action....

 BENZYL PENICILLIN (PENICILLIN -G)

BRAND NAME :- BENZYLPENICILLIN 0.5,1 MU inj.

BENZYL PENICILLIN, also known as penicillin G and  is an antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections.

PHARMACODYNAMIC:-

Benzathine penicillin is in a class of beta-lactam antimicrobials. Beta-lactams are bactericidal antimicrobials. This type of antimicrobial inhibits the biosynthesis of the cell wall peptidoglycan during the stage of active multiplication. It inhibits bacterial peptidoglycan transpeptidase .It is part of the penicillin and beta lactam family of antibacterial drugs.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:-

PROCAINE benzylpenicillin is hydrolyzed into penicillin G once it is released from the injection site. Penicillin G attaches to the penicillin-binding proteins on bacterial cell wall and inhibit the transpeptidation enzyme that crosslinks the peptide chains attached to the backbone of the peptidoglycan. The final bactericidal event involves the inactivation of an inhibitor of autolytic enzymes in the cell wall, leading to lysis of the bacterium . It not active against the penicillinase - producing bacteria which includes many strains of staphylococci .

USED:-

mainly used for the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive cocci, against gram-positive organisms. Some gram-negative organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Leptospira weilii are also reported to be susceptible to benzylpenicillin.

SIDE EFFECTS:-

Common side effect are

Rash,Allergic reaction,Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness).

DOES:-

DIRECTION BY the PHYSICIAN .

REPOSITORY PENICILLIN G INJECTIONS

These are insoluble salts of PnG which must be given by deep i.m.(never i.v.) Injection. They release PnG slowly at the site of injection, which then meets the same fate as soluble PnG.

1). PROCAINE PENICILLIN G inj. 0.5—1 MU i.m . 12-24 hourly as aqueous suspension. Plasma concentrations attained are lower ,but are sustained for 12-24 hours;

BRAND NAME:- PROCAINE PENICILLIN -G 0.5 ,1 MU dry powder in vial.

FORTIFIED PROCAINE PENICILLIN -G inj: contain 3 lac U procaine penicillin and 1 lac U sod.penicillin G to provide rapid as well as sustained blood levels.

BRAND NAME:- FORTIFIED P.P. INJ 3+1 lac U vial ; BISTREPEN 6+4 lac U/vial.

2). BENZATHINE PENICILLIN G 0.6 -2.4 MU i.m. every 2-4 weeks as aqueous suspension. It realease penicillin extremely  slowly — plasma concentrations are very low but remain effective for prophylactic purpose for up to 4 weeks .

BOTULINUM TOXIN Uses, Side Effects, and More

BOTULINUM TOXIN ( A or B ) BRAND NAME:- BOTOX ,DYSPORT  BOTULINUM TOXIN  A and B are highly potent exotoxins produced by Clostridium botulinum that are responsible for ' botulism' ( a type of food poisoning). These neurotoxic proteins cause long- lasting loss of cholinergic transmission by interacting with axonal proteins involved in exocytotic release of Ach. Localized injection of minute quantity of botulinum toxin.  PHARMACODYNAMIC :- Botulinum toxin A inhibits the release of acetylcholine, relieving muscle contraction and spasm associated with many conditions, such as incontinence and dystonia. Cosmetically, botulinum toxin A paralyses muscles in the face to temporarily treat wrinkles. The maximum effects of muscle paralysis occur four to seven days after a dose. When injected at therapeutic doses, botulinum toxin A causes partial chemical denervation of muscle tissue, causing local reduction of muscle activity. Muscle atrophy may result, axonal sprouting may beg...

Clonazepam used, Side effects, Dose, & more

Clonazepam  Brand name:- Lonazepam , Clonapax , Rivotril 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 mg tab. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine. It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA) which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain. Pharmacodynamic:- The pharmacodynamic properties of clonazepam are common among benzodiazepines and include anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing and anxiolytic effects . Animal data and electroencephalographic investigations in man have shown that clonazepam rapidly suppresses many types of paroxysmal activity including the spike and wave discharge in absence seizures (petit mal), slow spike wave, generalized spike wave, spikes with temporal or other locations, as well as irregular spikes and waves Label . Moreover, the agent can also decrease the frequency, amplitude, duration, and spread of discharge in minor motor seizures Label . Generalized EEG abnormalities are more readily suppressed by clonazepam than are focal ...

Carbidopa Uses, Side Effects, and More

Carbidopa Brand name:- lodosyn.  Carbidopa is always given with levodopa. It works by preventing levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain. This allows for a lower dose of levodopa, which causes less nausea and vomiting. Pharmacodynamic:-  When mixed with levodopa, carbidopa inhibits the peripheral conversion of levodopa to dopamine and the decarboxylation of oxitriptan to serotonin by aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase. This results in an increased amount of levodopa and oxitriptan available for transport to the central nervous system. Carbidopa also inhibits the metabolism of levodopa in the GI tract, thus, increasing the bioavailability of levodopa. The presence of additional units of circulating levodopa can increase the effectiveness of the still functional dopaminergic neurons and it has been shown to alleviate symptoms for a time. The action of carbidopa is very important as levodopa is able to cross the blood-brain barrier while dopamine cannot...
