ACETOMENAPHTHONE (VITAMIN K3)FAT SOLUBLE

 ACETOMENAPHTHONE (VITAMIN K3) FAT SOLUBLE

BRAND NAME:-ACETOMENADIONE 5,10mg tab; KAPILIN 10mg tab.

ACETOMENAPHTHONE is a fat soluble dietary principal for the synthesis of clotting factors, which promote coagulation and are indicated in haemorrhagic states.

CHEMISTRY AND SOURCE:- Vit K has a basic naphthoquinone structure, with or without a side chain (R) at position 3. The side chain in K1 is phytyl ,in K2 prenyl , while in K3 there is no side chain.

ACTION:- VITAMIN K3 acts as a cofactor at a late stage in the synthesis by liver of coagulation protein — prothrombin, factors VII,IX and X. The vit K dependent change (y carboxylation of glutamate residues of these zymogen proteins; confers on them the capacity to bind Ca2+ and to get bound to phospholipids surface — properties essential for participation in the coagulation cascade.

UTILISATION:- Fat- soluble froms of vit K are absorbed from the intestine via lymph and require bile salts for absorption, while water soluble froms are absorbed directly into portal blood. An active transport process in the jejunum has been demonstrated for K3 are absorbed by simple diffusion. Vit K is only temporarily concentrated in liver, but there are no significant Store in the body. It is metabolized in liver by side chain cleavage and glucuronide conjunction; metabolites are excerted in bile and urine.

USE:- Prophylaxis and treatment of Bleeding due to deficiency of clotting factors. Dietary deficiency, prolonged Antimicrobial therapy, obstructive jaundice or malabsorption syndrome, liver disease etc.

ADVERSE EFFECTS:-

allergic reaction,skin rashes,g.i.t

Calcium Uses, Side Effects, and More

Calcium Brand name:- calcinol, cipcal ,M ilical, Calcium sandoze, Shelcal ,  Macalvit . Calcium is a mineral found in over-the-counter supplements or prescription formulations used for the treatment of specific medical conditions related to calcium deficiency.  PREPARATION:-  1. Calcium carbonate (40% Ca) : It is an insoluble, tasteless and nonirritating salt. Reacts with gastric HCL  to form cholride, and can be used as antacid. It is the most common salt present in calcium supplements, but gastric acid is required for  converting it into the absorbable form . Calcium availability from it is poor in patients taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) ,H² blocker, and in elderly. 2.  Calcium citrate ( as tetrahydrate , 21% Ca²+ ) : Slightly soluble in water, but dissolve well in presence of HCL . It is nonirritating and is used in supplements; absorption in patients taking PPIs/H² blocker and elderly is satisfactory. 3. Calcium gluconate (9% Ca) : is availa...
